Year 5- Business Enterprise
To enhance their PSHE topic 'Careers, Financial Capability and Economic Wellbeing', the Year 5 staff facilitate Business Enterprise, which is ongoing throughout the year.
To launch the PSHE topic, a visitor from Santander come to talk to Year 5 about how to budget, spend wisely and how to save money. She also talked to the children about bank accounts and how to open and manage them. She ended her visit by talking about ways that children could make and gain money.
Following on from this visit, the Y5 children have been set a challenge to try and make their own money, which they will use towards a school visit to Temple Newsam, an Anglo Saxon day and to contribute towards some Science visitors coming into schol. Year 5 will also be supporting various chosen charities.
The children have also been challenged to try and raise 50p a week at home, to achieve a total of £15, which will pay for their school visit to Lineham Farm later in the year.
In Autumn 1, some of the children organised, advertised and ran a 'second-hand sale' for the whole school. The Y5 children bought in books and toys from home that they no longer wanted and they sold these all for 50p-£2, raising an amazing £96. Bun sales have also been planned in October, to raise money for local charities.
Each half term the children will continue to be resourceful and will find ways to make money. Keep checking back for updates.
