Arooj Celebration

Arooj Celebration

On Thursday 19th March, 2015 a number of our children attended the Arooj Celebration at the Civic Hall. Our Bollywood dancers performed with great skill for the audience which was made up of Local Authority dignitaries, parents, teachers and children from the other schools. Well done to our dancers and a big thank you to Mrs Sembhi and Mrs Taverner for choreographing the dance and teaching it to them.

Congratulations to Rachel Small who received first prize overall for her short story writing and to Leila Buono who also received first prize overall for her calligraphy. Well done also to Jo Parr, Amirah Siddique and Sophia Puente who were highly commended for their entries. Many children from many other schools took part in the Arooj competition and we were thrilled that so many of our children were recognised.

Here are some of the comments made by the dignitaries:

Well, wow what an unforgettable afternoon!

Congratulations to all the children involved. Their schools and families can be justly proud, They were so eloquent, professional, funny, creative and obviously enjoyed it all tremendously.

Looking forward to next year already!

A truly wonderful afternoon- thank you so much.

Many, many congratulations to the staff team who planned, organised and executed the event in such an excellent manner, to teachers and leaders in schools who worked with their children to enable them to showcase their talents so confidently, to families for their absolute support and to the amazing children- without whom this would not have been possible. What fantastic ambassadors for learning and for Leeds!

All the children who provided entertainment were truly stunning: the dhol drummers from Moor Allerton Hall, the dancers from Carr Manor, the singers from Harehills, the school council from Iveson and the amazing actors from Rosebank who stole the show with their fabulous heart-felt acting of Macbeth – I can see a career in the theatre for some of them!

Thanks also to the brilliant poets, calligraphers and story writers whose writing talents were celebrated today – I hope they continue to nourish and develop their writing skills. We really have some amazingly talented children at Arooj schools and it’s great to give them an opportunity to show off their skills.

We are extremely proud, at Carr Manor, of them all!
